Watsu By Dawn Watts

A new decade is here, discover deep relaxation and mental clarity and take on Goliath?

We live in an ever increasing age of immediacy and relentless demands. How grateful would we be if life slowed down and we could make decisions calmly with a new sense of composure?

We try our best to eat the right foods, keep to an exercise programme and take everything in moderate but do we take the time to relax, chill out and ease the pressures we put ourselves under?

Whether you are a stressed business owner, a parent juggling the kids, work, and the home, a carer needing respite, a sufferer of chronic pain, or simply feel the need for some calming relaxation, a Watsu experience could be just what the tired muscles, and that includes the brain, have been crying out for. Transforming those turbulent troubles of the outside world into a tranquil, blissful lagoon can be difficult which is why we try so hard to begin new habits each and every New Year; but how many of us continue? Not enough!

What do you get when you cross warm water and shiatsu massage? Well, the obvious answer would be ‘a soggy mess’ but the punch line is far more intriguing.

Although developed in the hot water springs of California in 1980 and established in over 40 countries, this is possibly the first time you’ve heard of Watsu which is not uncommon.

Watsu is a water based treatment using the gentle stretching techniques and pressure points associated with Shiatsu in a tranquil warm water pool. Why water based? Simply because of the wonderful range of free-flowing and effortless movements which can be achieved when our body is ‘supported’ and buoyant. The stretches are much greater, the relaxation far deeper, joint manipulation more extensive, and the release of mind buzzing thoughts is all achieved when we’re weightless.

Before images of being dunked under water, having to hold your breathe or being an Olympian style marathon swimmer distract you, a Watsu is achieved through measured support by a highly qualified and skilled professional practitioner. The warm water is never more than standing depth, your face never goes under the water and you’re never left alone.

This makes it fabulous for all ages, male and female, swimmer or non-swimmer – being Watsu-ed is a wonderful relief from the stress that causes poor concentration, tension headaches, insomnia and debilitating pain. Releasing tension has some marvellously narcissistic side-effects too – as we relax tension lines melt away from the face so it could be an age-defying treatment too!

As there are very few fully qualified Watsu practitioners and even less who offer this tranquil treatment in a private pool. To have Hydro-Health, offering this unique treatment, set in our very own secluded countryside in Staffordshire is relaxations best kept secret at your very own door. With a separate ‘Watsit’ room to relax in afterwards you can truly reflect at your leisure.
